Welcome to the POEMSS web site. Our site offers resources to help you and your organization improve the well-being of seniors in your community.

POEMSS is a non-profit, cooperative initiative of the Emergency Medical Services Program of Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City, the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and a 20-member consortium of state and national experts in pre-hospital care and geriatric medicine.

Our efforts emphasize prevention, preparation, and planning ahead for emergencies and unexpected health declines.

POEMSS Goals

• Improve the health and well-being of seniors and the elderly in our communities,

• Improve the pre-hospital care provided to older adults by First Responders, EMT's, and Paramedics, and

• Reduce the need for EMS and Emergency Department use by seniors and the elderly, through proactive educational programs.

POEMSS Activities

• Research,

• Development and delivery of educational programs for healthcare providers and caretakers,

• Development and delivery of educational programs for community seniors, and

• Networking with community service and healthcare agencies to improve the care and well-being of our older adults.
